30+ musicians in closed beta, record-over-loop flow working in under 60 seconds.

Flutter app for musicians to pick a backing loop and record vocals in under a minute. I designed Spontrec, built the Flutter app for Android, and delivered it to the client, now in closed beta.

Ideas disappear because voice memos have no musical context and GarageBand-style apps need setup time musicians do not have on the bus or after rehearsal. The product needed to be designed and built for speed in Flutter on Android.

  • Defined four clear libraries: Loops (backings), Listen (rehearsals and references), Song Ideas (vocals over loops), and Projects with a Random inbox for unfiled captures.
  • Designed the core flow for speed: Home → pick loop → record → save, target under 60 seconds with a coral record button as the only focus on screen.
  • Separated Listen from Loops so long rehearsal or ministration captures do not pollute the beat bank.
  • Built the Flutter app with capture-first organisation, offline-first storage, and export via share sheet.
  • Applied a dark studio visual system (Electric Violet, Hot Coral, Neon Cyan) with musician-friendly copy like “Record over this,” not “Initialize session.”
  • 30+ beta musicians capturing vocal ideas over loops in two taps, no DAW setup.
  • Loops, Listen, Song Ideas, and Projects libraries work offline in the Flutter build.
  • Record screen stays minimal: loop, timer, record/stop, retake.
  • Flutter Android app delivered to client for beta feedback before wider release.
